PhD Student Lu Zhao Receives Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowship

KU Aerospace Engineering PhD candidate Lu Zhao received the $10,000 Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowship on Monday, April 8, 2019. This prestigious honor is awarded annually to 30 exceptional women pursuing aerospace doctoral degrees around the globe. According to the Zonta International Foundation, "Our Fellows have gone on to become astronauts, aerospace engineers, astronomers, professors, geologists, business owners, heads of companies, even Secretary of the US Air Force."

Lu Zhao's research focus is in noise mitigation, a crucial part of the "Green Aviation" movement, an exciting frontier in the field of sustainable aviation. She has distinguished herself both as a highly skilled researcher and a conscientious, dedicated leader in the KUAE classroom. In the words of Dr. Saeed Farokhi, "Lu has the desire and drive to excel in all she undertakes, from coursework to laboratory work. Her independence, strength of character and desire to succeed are the qualities that Lu shares with the aviation pioneer,
Amelia Earhart."
