Advisory Board Organization and Operation
Mission
The mission of the Advisory Board is to advise the department on a broad range of issues that relate to the long term success of the department.
Objectives
- To provide strategic direction
- To ensure curriculum is consistent with customers needs
- To assist the department in obtaining student and faculty internships
- To ensure research supports department's mission
- To help department identify opportunities and resources
- To assist in the professional development of the faculty members
- To help the department recruit outstanding students
- To assist the department in assessing program performance
- To assist the department in providing lifelong learning programs
- To represent the department within the university and the profession
Organization
The Board will operate as a committee of the whole led by a Board Chair who is appointed for a two year term by the Department Chair. The Board Chair will assist the Department Chair in the planning of the Board meetings and communication with the Board.
Membership
Members will be recruited from a broad range of aerospace industry, government laboratories and academies institutions that either employ or train aerospace engineering graduates. At any given time, the Advisory Board will have between 15 and 20 active members. The term of appointment will be three years which is renewable. Members will be recruited by the Department Chair upon recommendation by a nomination committee made up of the department faculty members and the Advisory Board Chair.
Responsibilities
Each Advisory Board member will be expected to provide strategic direction and partner with the department to ensure its continuous improvement. Each Advisory Board member is expected to actively participate in both the Fall Advisory Board Meeting and the Spring Joint Advisory Board and Alumni Steering Committee Meeting.
